What: Caractere Side Skirts
Why: Jeez... side skirts were a real problem. Side skirts, in a nutshell, are a long piece of plastic, rubber or fiberglass. So why the hell are they so frigging expensive? I liked the Caractere Side Skirts, but they are ridiculously expensive for such a simple piece. I hunted around for other skirts that would be acceptable to me, and found a couple pairs that I might have been able to live with. I went so far as to order one of them... but called back a couple hours later and changed my order to the Caractre ones. I figured I was going to have to live with them for a while, I may as well get exactly what I wanted. For the most part, skirts are pretty plain and don't seem to have a huge impact on the visual appearance of the car - that is unless they are missing. The right side skirt should be invisible - if the skirt stands out, it's not the right skirt for the car.
What I would do differently: Nothing - there's not another skirt out there that looks better. That's not to say I'm completely satisfied with the skirts - I'm not. I don't think they quite look like I want them to - but I haven't seen anything out there that looks any better, and most look far worse. One thing I would do differently is mount the things myself - the place I had mount then screwed them up - and they are permanantly adhered to the vehicle, so they can't really be adjusted without a lot of heart ache and money. The Caractre manual that comes with the skirts says to mount the skirts 10mm below the door sill/seam. Don't do it - mount it flush. Mounting it according to the manual is a mistake. Why they tell you to do this is beyond me.
